I believe (for a creative and his or her portfolio) correctness is a given, the price of entry. But you will never be hired for playing it safe. Originality is the only way to stand out.

That said, figure out who you are, and run with it. Affected "differentness" reeks to the high heavens. There's a difference between being creative, and acting creative.
