Puns are fun, but simple. In the hierarchy of comedy, they are the lowest. Anyone can make one and anyone can understand them.
In my opinion, use of puns in advertising shows shallow creativity.

the thing about a pun is that it must be spontaneous to be good.
that's why they don't make great ads, too much thinking there(hopefully).
